Nilai U’s Indian Cultural Society held a three-day event to promote Indian culture among staff and students
Nilai University’s Indian Cultural Society has consistently raised the bar for its events and this year was no different with students and staff contributing towards making the three-day event a spectacular success. The campus was awash with colourful sarees, traditional foods and sounds of students cheering during the sporting events. The first day saw students decorate the President Hall with multi-coloured Kollams. These symbolic designs are made using coloured rice pellets and are traditionally prepared to usher in auspicious occasions.
The second day had the male students displaying their prowess at the traditional court game of kabaddi. The closing event also saw a celebration of Ponggal which usually falls in the month of February. “The ICS carries out these events annually as part of our efforts to promote Indian culture among students and staff. This is especially important to help international students better understand and enjoy the country’s melting pot culture and this year, we were able to share our culture with visiting students from Denmark,” says Rekha Prakash, who is the teacher advisor for the Indian Cultural Society.
