Nilai UC & Mizuno Golf School launches Golf Module at Malaysian International Golf
fair.
Nilai University College (Nilai UC) and Mizuno Golf School announced that an elective golf module will be available to students of the former's American Degree Transfer Programme. Comprising of five stages, students who successfully complete the Golf Module will be awarded three credits which can be transferred to the North American university of their choice. They will also receive a certificate from Mizuno Golf School.
Students for other faculties can also join this programme as part of their co-curricular credits requirement. They will do a three stage programme and students who successfully complete it will get a Mizuno Golf School certificate and two non-transferable credits. Students who are keen can opt to complete the five stage golf module of they so wish.
The Golf Module will be available from January 2011 onwards and PGA-sanctioned professionals Andrew Myles and James Patridge will conduct the classes at Nilai UC's sister company – Nilai Sprigs Golf and Country Resort. Students will thus have a chance to hone their skills at the driving range as well as the 27-hole golf course under the watchful supervision of seasoned professionals.
"We strongly believe that this Golf Module will equip students with a useful corporate tool as it will help open doors for them and to enable them to create useful networks. As a keen golfer myself, I think this represents a great opportunity for students to pick up a sport which they will continue to enjoy well into their golden years. Golf will also impart valuable life lessons such as instilling a sense of discipline, focus and perseverance," says Nilai UC President, Prof Emeritus Tengku Dato' Shamsul Bahrin.
At the launch, members of the media were told by David Leow, General Manager, Golf Division of Royal Sporting House which runs Mizuno Golf School, that recent surveys done in Australia and the United States reported a downward trend in younger people taking up golf. He is hoping that this Golf Module is one way to reverse such a trend and for Nilai UC students to take it up with a gusto. "It is our dream and vision to make golf a more common sport amongst aspiring executives and providing them the opportunity to learn it at home," says Leow.
Tengku Shamsul concurs and even suggested that if the response is good, Nilai UC and Mizuno Golf School may look towards offering more advanced courses and perhaps even a sports management diploma or degree.
Nilai UC is located in the lush suburb of Putra Nilai, just 45-minutes south of Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Its sister companies include the aforementioned Nilai Springs Golf and Country Resort as well as the Nilai International School. Golf has already been introduced to the latter and has been met with great response. This was one of the reasons that led the administrators to offer the golf module to the tertiary-level students. Programmes at Nilai UC include BBA in International Business, BSc in Biotechnology, and BA (Hons) in Business and Hospitality Management.
