Nilai UC expands it financial assistance scheme to make higher education increasingly affordable.
Under the Education For All financing scheme, students from households with a combined income of RM4,000 and below will only need to pay a fee of RM600 to begin studying in a diploma programme at Nilai University College (Nilai UC). In addition to this Nilai UC will provide the student free accommodation .
"Nilai UC administrators have long been advocates for making higher education as accessible as possible to students from all walks of life. Higher education is a right which should be available to all deserving students regardless of economic background. The Education For All financing scheme should help parents realise their children's full potential through higher education," says Nilai UC President, Prof Emeritus Tengku Dato' Shamsul Bahrin.
"We understand that the cost of providing for accommodation and food is a major concern amongst parents. That is why we have come up with this scheme which provides for free accommodation. If you live close by, daily travelling from home to University could also be an option as Nilai UC provides free shuttle service from major pick up points such as the Nilai Komuter Station to the University," adds Prof Tengku Shamsul.
Simple process
To apply for the Nilai UC Education For All financing scheme, the student will need to submit an application form and an accommodation form (if accommodation is required). This can be obtained from www.nilai.edu.my or calling 06-8502338 for the assistance of an education counsellor.
Once accepted, students will need to apply for a study loan from the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN). Approval however is at the discretion of PTPTN. To further assist parents financially, Nilai University College will provide free accommodation for the student. All Malaysian students who are enrolled in an approved programme are eligible to apply for a PTPTN loan. Repayment for the loans will begin after the student has graduated and starts as low as RM150 a month. Nilai University College has assigned dedicated staff to assist students with the application process.
For students from households with a combined income of more than RM4,000, they can also commence studying for a diploma with RM600. They apply for the PTPTN loan and top-ups, if any, can be made in instalments. However, accommodation is only provided for students who come from households with combined income of RM4,000 and below. Of course, all applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements of the relevant programme.
Other scholarship and awards
There are also other scholarships and awards available for study at Nilai UC. The Enrichment for Life award scheme is for students who are active in co-curricular activities and have been office bearers in school clubs and societies. These students qualify for a 30% tuition fee waiver for Foundation Studies and a further 10-25% waiver off degree tuition fees. The percentage of the waiver depends on the degree programme chosen. Similar waivers are available under the Nilai UC Merit scholarship scheme where students who scored 6As and above in SPM, CGPA of 3.0 in STPM or 14 points in UEC can apply.
100% scholarships
"Nilai UC welcomes with open arms those who have excelled in their studies as well as in extra curricular activities. Successful applicants to the Nilai UC High Achiever scholarship and the Nilai UC Extra-Curricular Excellence award will be entitled to a 100% waiver of tuition fees and free accommodation," says Tengku Shamsul. Students applying for the Nilai UC High Achiever scholarship will need to have scored a minimum of 10As in SPM, 3As in STPM or 6As in UEC. The Nilai UC Extra-Curricular Excellence award rewards students who have competed at national, state and regional level events.
