Visiting American MBA students get useful insight into domestic business culture.
California Baptist University, USA has long had a fruitful working relationship with Nilai University, with students, staff and academics making an annual trek to the campus in Putra Nilai. Usually their stay is co-ordinated by the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, but this year, the California Baptist contingent comprised of 13 Masters of Business Administration (MBA) students and two professors. Hence, the first order of proceedings was for Nilai University’s Faculty of Business to offer these post-graduate students an intellectually-stimulating discourse. T this end, Nilai University invited three speakers:
- Datuk Prof Dr John Anthony Xavier (University Kebangsaan Malaysia) - To understand the role and initiatives of the Malaysian government in fostering public – private collaboration in business.
- Prof. Datuk Dr. Megat Burhainuddin Megat Abdul Rahman (Nilai University Vice-Chancellor) - To understand the management of the Malaysian healthcare sector.
- Prof. Dr. Sivakumar Velayutham (Nilai University Dean of Faculty of Business) - To understand the intricacies of clanship in business ventures in Malaysia.
The four hour symposium exposed the visiting Americans to the intricacies in each area and many of them took the opportunity to field in depth questions during the Q&A session. These efforts are very much part of Nilai University’s initiative to broaden the appeal of its programmes as well as to tap the expertise of its vast academic base.
