Nilai U sign MoU with Wadhwani Foundation to offer students enhanced certification.
Nilai University (Nilai U) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wadhwani Foundations to provide entrepreneurship support and capacity building for students at the University. This is in line with Nilia U’s aim of producing graduates who are ready to tackle the challenges of a highly competitive employment market or create jobs for themselves instead of being dependent on the job market.
Currently, students in the degree programmes must complete 120 credits which include a number of modules designed to equip students with the necessary soft skills, which Nilai U administrators feel are vital in transforming students from run-of-the-mill graduates to scholars who are highly sought after in the job marketplace. Already, Nilai U offers modules that are co-ordinated by the likes of renowned specialists such as Dale Carnegie, Outward Bound and Mizuno Golf School. Successful completion of these modules will gain enhanced certification which will further complement their résumés.
According to Preeti Singh, Associate Director – Global for the Wadhwani Foundation, students who sign up for the entrepreneurship module will be part of an E-cell (or entrepreneurship cell). “E Cell members interact with entrepreneurs, participate in programs that provide entrepreneurial experience, pursue their start-up ideas, and establish and develop their student companies. Mature E Cells often run programs for entrepreneurs beyond the campus. These E Cells transform into hubs of entrepreneurial activities and act as resource bureaus, skilfully matching entrepreneurs with experts in the community,” she explains.

Dean of Nilai U’s Faculty of Business also further elaborated on the module when he said: “In a difficult job market environment graduates might have to or want to create their own jobs, i.e. become an entrepreneur. To this end we not only have entrepreneurship courses in our business programmes but also an elective available to all university students. The course focuses on the concepts, skills and know-how, information, and alternatives that are relevant for start-up entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial managers and the relevant stakeholders. To further develop our courses in entrepreneurship as well as provide our graduates and local community with mentoring and start-up support for new ventures we are pleased to collaborate with Wadhwani Foundations.”
Wadhwani Foundation was formed in 2000 by Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, the organisation’s primary mission is economic acceleration in emerging economies.
