Nilai U sign MoU with Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Cirebon, Indonesia to create pathway to hospitality degree.

Nilai University (Nilai U) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Cirebon, Indonesia (UNTAG Cirebon). The MoU will allow students from UNTAG Cirebon to progress to the BA (Hons) in Business and Hospitality Management programme at Nilai U.  The collaboration is for the sharing of technical know-how, joint-research and student and staff exchange.

In his welcoming speech, Nilai U Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Sothi Rachagan, was keen to note how impressed he has been with UNTAG Cirebon hotel management students who have been doing their internship at Nilai Springs Resort Hotel, which is also part of the Nilai Resources group of companies. “They are always very polite and conduct themselves impeccably. They have the right body language and know just what is required of them as professionals in the hospitality industry,” he says. “There is plenty which we can learn from them.” The Vice-Chancellor is looking forward to the students adding to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the Nilai U campus where they will join students from over 50 different countries.

Nilai U established its School of Hospitality and Tourism in 1997 with the government’s call to produce graduates for the service industries. Prof Sothi said he was very proud of how far the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism (as it is now known) has come since then. It now offers programmes in culinary arts, hotel management and tourism, and has its own formal dining restaurant, training kitchens and mock hotel room.

All students from Nilai U’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism will be able to do their internships at Nilai Springs Resort Hotel and Nilai Springs Golf Resort. Nilai U is jointly owned by Nilai Resources Group and FELDA Global Ventures. For more information on the programmes on offer, please go to www.nilai.edu.my or call 06-8502308 / 07-2262336.
