Let the Games Begin

With the Olympic Games due to begin in London, Nilai UC students and staff put on their own sporting bonanza.

The spirit of competition and fair play. That is the key message being drummed into the students and participants at the launch of Nilai University College's (Nilai UC) Campus games 2012. Andrew Ting, Nilai UC Vice President was keen to stress that participation alone brings its own rewards. "Participation through an event like today's games is where every participant gets the opportunities to extend sportsmanship and fair play. We put into practice the soft skills that we've learned in our lecture halls. This is where we build bridges to bring together the cultural differences in a diverse campus such as ours," he explains. "Each one taking part is determined to win and must have spent time training, practicing and in the process learn real meaning about discipline and commitment. Win or lose, each one who takes part walks away a winner because of this."

Teams were divided according to the Schools and will go on till the 15th March 2012. Michael Yei, Director of Nilai UC Department of Student Affairs and Sports said the inaugural Campus games was only made possible with co-operation from all departments as an event this size needed the participation of everyone on campus.

Welcome to Nilai UC Campus Games and thank you for being here today. It is indeed a pleasure to see everyone here; from faculty members, administration staff to the student body. This is the first time the University is organizing a sports event at this scale and we hope this endeavor will be the platform for better things to come.

Education is not about the learning that takes place in the lecture halls and tutorial rooms. It also takes place in the courts and fields. Sports is one of many complimentary facets of education which serves to enhance personal development and growth. It is with this in mind, that Nilai UC feels these Games will bring out the best in us in the quest for excellence on and off the field.

In addition to that, academic as well as administrative staff will be competing side by side with students. We compete as equals. This is what education is about, learning, working, playing and even competing together. (like a family)

I am sure each one taking part is determined to win and must have spent time training, practicing and in the process learn real meaning about discipline and commitment. Win or lose, each one who takes part walks away a winner because of this.

So, it is with great pleasure that I welcome all of you to the Nilai UC Campus Games 2012. To all taking part, may the best team win. To the spectators, enjoy the games.
