Making Higher Education Affordable

Nilai U has a number of financial aid, scholarships and loan schemes to make higher education more accessible to deserving students

Nilai University's administrators have always striven to democratize higher education by making it more accessible to deserving students. They have tried to achieve this through scholarships, financial aid and loan schemes that help alleviate the financial burden, especially for those from the working classes.

The latest loan scheme allows students to commence their studies at Nilai University (Nilai U) with just RM100 payment, the rest being financed via a loan scheme with a local bank  (please go to www.nilai.edu.my for more details). As such, students who meet the entry requirements of their chosen programmes can begin higher education adventure with a minimum outlay, allowing them to prioritize on other essentials such as books, computers, accommodation and living expenses.

There are also a number of scholarships that reward academic high achievers. The High Achievers Scholarship will cover 100% of tuition fees of successful applicants who have scored 9As in SPM, 3As in STPM, or 6As in UEC. There is also a Merit scholarship that rewards students who have done reasonably well in the aforementioned exams, with a sliding rule scale determining the amount of waiver of fees.

The scholarships are not limited to academic high achievers as the administrators recognise that those who have done well in the sporting and extra-currcular arenas should also be encouraged to fulfill their potential through higher education. Students who have represented state or nation in extra-curricular activities will be entitled between 50% and 100% waiver of tuition fees. Those who have held senior committee positions at school level or served in a uniformed body (eg Red Crescent Society) will also be entitled up to 15% (5-15%) discount under the Enrichment for Life award.

Families who earn less than RM4,000 monthly household income can apply for the Education for All scheme. Under this scheme, there will be a 50% waiver on any amount not covered by the PTPTN loan and be entitled to a discount of up to 25% on accommodation fees.

Add in the Progression scholarship which encourages students who have achieved a pre-determined CGPA at Foundation and Diploma level to further their studies into a degree programme, students and their parents have a number of options in which to help alleviate the financial burden.

Nilai U was established in 1997 and all of its programmes are approved by the Ministry of Education. For more information, please visit its campus on Open Days on 20-21 Mar & 28-29 Mar 2015. To speak to a counsellor, please call 06-8502308 / 07-2262336.
