Examinations – love them or more pointedly, hate them, students have to accept that these are the fundamental determinant of their success at university. The lecturers and counselors at Nilai University College (Nilai UC) recently held a seminar – 'Managing Exam Stress' – to help coach their young charges into better exam preparations.
Aside from hitting the books with a vengeance, students were given various tips on how to alleviate their stress and anxiety during this crucial time. Dr Shanti Bavani, Nilai UC Counselling Psychologists was at pains to remind students that alcohol, tobacco and drug use was not the way to alleviate stress and it would lead to even more problems.
Along with her colleague, Ling Mee Chooi, Nilai UC Personal Development Counsellor, Dr Shanti provided students with tips such as breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and even laughter therapy to improve the students' mental states.
Nilai UC administrators put students welfare at the very top of its priorities as it believes in providing a Total Student Experience. Such talks and seminars are a regular feature of life in Nilai UC and these programmes are designed to ensure students develop into well-rounded graduates
