Budding hospitality and tourism professionals at Nilai UC benefit from having a youth wing of professional organisation.
"I am proud to announce that we will be setting up a Youth Wing of the Malaysian Food and Beverage Association (MFBEA) here at Nilai University College (Nilai UC). This will be the first organisation of its kind," announced Muhammad Hisham Tan Abdullah, MFBEA President.
He was speaking at a luncheon at Nilai UC's Flamme restaurant in which participants of the recent FHM Salon D'Culinaire competition were handed their certificates. Hisham said the idea was first mooted during discussions with senior Nilai UC academics a few years ago and he believed such an idea was beneficial to both the students and the hospitality and tourism industry as a whole.
"The hospitality and tourism sector is one of the biggest contributors of the country's GDP and is constantly growing. Having an organisation such as the MFBEA helps regulate industry standards as well as promote an environment which allows young men and women to build a rewarding career," Hisham further emphasised.
This sentiment was shared by Bonnie Lopez, Dean of Nilai UC School of Hospitality and Tourism. He firmly believes every effort had to be made to ensure his students receive the best training possible before embarking into the working world. "Besides having a group of experienced and dedicated lecturers, every effort is made to ensure students get plenty of hands on experience. From running Flamme's daily operations to entering prestigious competitions such as the FHM Salon D'Culinaire, students are given every opportunity to expand their range of experiences. Having a youth wing o f the MFBEA will definitely add to this as they will be able to learn how to organise events from seasoned industry professionals," says Lopez.
