The Fine Art of Debating

Nilai U students engage in verbal jousting at interschool debate competition.

Should children of alumni be given preferential admission? Is neutering of pets barbaric and inhumane? These are some of the contentious issues being debated in the preliminary rounds of Nilai University's (Nilai U) interschool debating challenge. Organised by Nilai U's Life Sciences Society, the event is designed to improve students"s oratory skills as well as encourage them to explore current issues.

School of Business secured three out of the four places in the semifinals, the fourth contender being the Biotechnology students from the School of Engineering Science and Technology. "It was a very challenging as well as fulfilling experience", says Michael Chiduku, BBA Marketing (Zimbabwe), from Group I who scored the highest among the eight groups. Stella Sata Mutale, Degree in Accounting and Finance (Zambia), from the same group was announced the best speaker for the evening.
