A team from School of Business came out on top at Nilai University College's Interschool Parliamentary School debate 2012. Organised by the Life Sciences Society, the final two teams battled it out over the topic of 'We Let Technology Do Too Much'. Appropriately, the other team for the motion was from School of Allied Health Sciences who used all their knowledge as Medical Laboratory Technology students to underline the importance of technological advances, in particular in the area of healthcare.
The winning team comprising of Sira Okello (BBA (Hons ) in Marketing / Uganda), Sata Stella Mutale (Degree in Accounting and Finance/ Zambia), Chiduku Michale Simbarashe (BBA (Hons) in Marketing / Zimbabwe ) and Obiechina Chinwe (Degree in Accounting and Finance / Nigeria), and their win plus the good showing from other School of Business teams meant that their school bagged the Best School trophy.
"They put up a spirited fight", says Sira Okello of his opponents. Gracious in victory, saying he believes that there was much truth in their arguments, but is pleased that his team's passionate pleas to not let technology cloak the human touch swayed the judges' minds. His team mate echoed similar sentiments and says that it the experience of entering the debating competition has been a highly educational. "I learnt a lot through the research that we did and the knowledge will definitely stick", she says.
