Largest number of FELDA graduates at Nilai U convocation.
"This university is unique in that a large number of its graduates are first generation graduates. So convocation is especially significant for them and their families," noted Prof Dato' Dr Sothi Rachagan, Nilai University's Vice-Chancellor, during his speech at this year's Convocation ceremony. This point was best illustrated with the largest cohort of FELDA scholars to have graduated from this institution to date - 101. This included a number of adult students who had put their careers on hold in pursuit of higher education and in this case, a Diploma in Agricultural Management (FELDA holds a 30% stake in Nilai U).
"FELDA had encouraged us to do this programme to enhance our knowledge and skills base. Although it was tough having to juggle family commitments alongside that of being a full-time university student, it was well worth the effort" - Izwan Salleh, a 35-year-old father of three.
“I was very surprised to be named Valedictorian.” – Michelle Foh Ming Yee (BSc (Hons) in Nursing), who hopes that her success will spur other nursing students to emulate her feat.
"FELDA students should really consider doing this programme as it is really interesting. The English medium of instruction is a big advantage since it gives us the opportunity to improve in the language, which in turn, enhances our marketability in the job market,” – Faidzah Hasan (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology)
