Invitation to be a leader

Invitation to be a leader 7 November 2009 Bright and dynamic students are invited to apply to Nilai UC-MOHE Future Leaders Camp, designed to nurture and guide leaders of tomorrow. Nilai University College (Nilai UC) is proud to be the first private education institute to be given the honour to organise a leadership camp for students from the private sector by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). This event is also supported by the World Youth Foundation.

These days its not enough to be a straight ‘A’s student to succeed and be considered a leader. You’ve got to be active in extra-curricular activities, well read and have a worldview to get into a top-notch job in the corporate sector. Similarly, your academic record alone will not make you the darling of the masses if you are looking at being a leader in the public arena. Your grooming, oratorical skills and ability to think outside the box are what distinguish you to your audience.

Where can you hone these skills? Outside of public universities, such opportunities only become available to students via expensive classes or private sessions. The administrators at Nilai UC recognised the need to come up with a solution to involve the sizeable undergraduate population in private institutions. And this was to organise an all-expenses-covered camp at the newly opened Nilai Springs Resort Hotel from the 7th to 9th November 2009 to provide student leaders with a platform to develop their potential to be future leaders of the world.

The theme chosen for the inaugural Nilai UC-MoHE Future Leaders camp is ‘Cultural Relations: Leading in Solidarity’. This is in recognition of the fact that private institutions in the country have sizable international student populations and it is a great opportunity to have an environment conducive towards the exchange of cultural information and experiences. There will be specially crafted activities coupled with lectures and workshops sessions aimed at sharpening leadership skills, providing self-development opportunities, facilitate the initiation of a network and to promote inter-cultural understanding.

The organizers are keen to underline these opportunities, which, until now, are not readily available to students of private tertiary students. Participants will be privy to etiquette and grooming sessions, cultural workshops and a chance to hear VIP speakers talk on the subject of cultural understanding.

Any enrolled college student may apply to be part of this Nilai UC-MOHE Future Leaders Camp. Participants will be from two categories. Category A consists of students chosen by their respective institutions, one of which must be an international student. Category B will consist of direct applicants who will number 58 out of expected total 150 students. The exclusive number of participants underline that you will be among an elite group of students who have been identified as having vast leadership potential.

All direct applicants (Category B) must write an essay of not more than 250 words.
