Nilai U Fencers take centre stage

Nilai U fencers make trip to South Korea for World University Games.

Nilai University (Nilai U) were proud to have fielded three national fencers as part of the Malaysian contingent at the recent World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. Accompanying them were staff from Nilai U’s Department of Sports and Recreation as well as fencing coach Bruno Gaby. The athletes involved were:

1) Andrew Mok Vern Han (Bachelors of Business Administration)

2) Joshua Koh I Jie (Diploma in Agriculture Management)

3) Adam Nicholas Lindbichler (Foundation in Science)

Nilai U was selected by the Ministry of Education as a ‘Pusat Sukan Tumpuan – Lawan Pedang' Fencing with a purview to develop new champions and to popularise this niche sport. The campus has some of the best facilities for the sport and also employs an Olympic-level coach from France. The national athletes also benefit from this as they can pursue their studies while representing their nation. Having the facilities on campus allows them to continue with a rigorous training programme while Nilai U administrators have made for a flexible timetable to accommodate their frequent sports meets. This is in line with the institution’s philosophy of rewarding deserving students who have achieved academic and extra-curricular greatness.
