Students and staff undergo 1Citizen training to better understand the dos and don’ts of using the Internet.
Students from Nilai University’s latest intakes became the pioneer batch of students to be trained under the 1Citizen programme. This was part of their orientation programme and it is designed to imbue youngsters with proper netiquette and how to behave in online forums, blogs and social media sites. They were also made aware of the many dangers lurking in cyberspace in the form of hackers, spyware and phishing. “We live in the Information Technology age where everything and anything is available at a click of a mouse. But students must be vigilant and learn how to keep certain personal information safe,” counsels Subashini R, Head of Nilai University’s Department of Languages and one of the trainers in this programme. “It’s not just pictures but students must realise the potential dangers of identity theft and how to keep banking and personal information away from intruders.”
At the end of the two-day 1Citizen programme, students sat for an exam. Successful candidates earned a 1Citizen certificate, making it the first piece of qualification the new students have earned at Nilai University.
