Nilai UC Students Climb to the Top

Armed with youthful dollops of brawn and courage, Nilai UC students turned up in droves at the 100PLUS Live Active Challenge on 2 July 2009. Undaunted by the sheer steepness, some displayed dexterity worthy of an arachnid while others slowly but surely clawed their way up, but each determined climber made it to the top of the 32-foot rock façade. The façade was the main feature on 100 PLUS's 40-footer transformable fitness machine.

In collaboration with 100 PLUS and Event Management Team Lobos, Nilai UC continues to encourage a healthy lifestyle for its student population with free fitness tests and a variety of sporting activities. Equipped with a slew of catchy names such as 'Rock Master', 'Rope Gladiator', and 'Spiderman Challenge' it is not a surprise that Nilai UC's latest health awareness project quickly became a popular hotspot for sport enthusiasts and onlookers alike.

Throughout the event, students and staff were witness to a great number of undiscovered talents who continued to challenge their limits and break previously held records. Among these were students Tommy Gan Chee Jun (1st semester, B.B.A. [Hons] in Marketing) and Lim Sien Han (1st semester, Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) who respectively made history with some astonishing times. The former made it across a 12-foot ‘Flying Bar’ in just one second while the latter took just 16 seconds to scale his way up the 32-foot 'Rock Master'.

"I am very impressed by the many sport and wellness facilities at Nilai UC's spacious, green campus – which I believe is an ideal place for students looking for an active sporting lifestyle. As anticipated, I can see this reflected in the students here, as they are one of the most sporting and keen crowds I have encountered in my many excursions to various education institutions, both public and private. I am also informed that the 50-plus student organisations at Nilai UC are equally active," exclaims Mohd Hafizi Hanip, Event Coordinator of 100PLUS Live Active Challenge.

The event also received the thumbs up from Lim Zhen (1st Semester, Foundation in Business), a tall and chiseled student who frequents the gym thrice a week. "It is very encouraging to see that my education at Nilai UC goes beyond mere books and that the university college is taking progressive steps toward making the students' campus experience healthy and worth remembering," he comments while watching his friends sweat it out. "We look forward to more activities such as this in the future."
