Spreading the Message

Nilai U hosts gathering of Tamil-speaking secondary students by Pertubuhan Perpaduan Hindu Thamizhar Negeri Sembilan. The Society organizes Intensive SPM Seminar for Tamil Speaking students in Seremban district.

Last Saturday was a busy day indeed! Nilai University’s campus was awash with visitors who were attending Convocation 2015 as well as 280 Tamil-speaking secondary students who were there for their Intensive SPM Seminar. The seminar for the Form V students, with Deputy Education Minister, P Kalamanathan, also in attendance. The MP for Hulu Langat was at pains to remind students the importance of doing well in their SPM examinations as it will determine whether they will continue into higher education. He reminds these students “Kalvi valkai vetrikku miga periya valigatty”  - Education is the prime force for success in life.

Nilai University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Sothi Rachangan, also took the opportunity to remind the students of the importance of education as a tool for social mobility. He pointed out that Nilai University was unique in that the majority of its students are first time graduates i.e. they are the first on their families to attend university. Hence, they all had a responsibility to make their parents, schools and their communities proud. 

 

Deputy Education Minister, P Kalamanathan, urged secondary students who attended the seminar to grab the opportunity of higher education.

 

Prof Dato’ Dr Sothi Rachagan (third from left – Nilai U Vice-Chancellor) was keen to emphasise the importance of higher education as a means of upward social mobility for Indian students.
